Hungary is a country that became a republic in 1989 after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. More than half of the country is flat. The highest parts are in the Carpathians, which border Slovenia. Hungary boasts the largest lake in Central Europe, Lake Balaton. The main waterway is the Danube river.

Hungary has more than 1000 thermal sites, many of which have been converted into baths and spas. There are hundreds of baths around the country. The first thermal baths were built by the Romans more than 2000 years ago.
