Berlin facts
The rivers Havel and Spree flow both through and around Berlin and there are hundreds of kilometers of rivers and canals. The city center itself is the 200-hectare Tiergarten, the emperor’s old hunting area and all the important parts of the city are like layers of cake from this center. To the west are large recreational lake areas, definitely worth a visit. Excursion boats sail on a regular schedule on the western Wannsee, Tegeler See and lakes around Potsdam, where the castle Sanssouci and the fifteen other castles in the same park area offer experiences for a whole day.
Berlin has not only become the capital of art and culture. In 2006 it was at the World Cup in football, where hundreds of thousands of football fans visited the city, it was the start of a number of exciting initiatives such as Berlin’s impressive main train station just opposite the Chancellor’s office, the impressive Reichstag and with unobstructed views of the golden angel on The Victory Column in the Tiergarten.
